  19. I.   System Setup for Windows 95
  20.  
  21. Windows 95 needs to be setup in the correct order 
  22. to function properly. If Dial-up Networking is 
  23. installed before the Dial-up Adapter, a corrupt 
  24. Dial-up Adapter installation can sometimes arise.
  25. Use the following steps to correctly configure 
  26. the Windows 95 communication functions.

  29. N.B. If your computer is connected to any other 
  30. internal or external networks please consult your
  31. system administrator before proceeding.

  34. Step 1:
  35. Please ensure that your modem is installed and 
  36. configured within Control Panel and that you 
  37. have your Windows 95 set-up disks or CD-Rom 
  38. for this proceedure.
  39.  
  40. Step 2:
  41. The Dial-up Adapter must be installed.  Click on 
  42. Start-Settings-Control Panel.  Double-click Network. 
  43. If Dial-up Adapter is visible in the window, click it 
  44. once, then click Remove. If Dial-up adapter is not 
  45. visible proceed to step 3.

  47. Step 3:
  48. Click Add. Select Adapter and click Add. From the list 
  49. of Manufacturers select: Microsoft and under Network 
  50. Adapters: select Dial-up Adapter. Click OK.

  52. Step 4:
  53. Click Add. Select Protocol and click Add. From the list of 
  54. Manufacturers select Microsoft and from the list of Network 
  55. Protocols: select TCP/IP. Click OK.

  57. Step 5:
  58. Highlight the Dial-up Adapter, then click on Properties.
  59. Select the Bindings tab. Ensure that TCP/IP is ticked. 
  60. If not, enable it by clicking the check box. If there
  61. are any other entries in this window with ticks against
  62. them, disable them by clicking the check box to remove
  63. the tick. Only TCP/IP should have a tick against it.
  64. Click OK.

  66. Step 6:
  67. Select the Identification tab. Ensure the word 'Default'
  68. is within the entry for Computer name, and the word 
  69. 'WORKGROUP' is within the entry for Workgroup. Click OK.
  70. You may be prompted for your Windows 95 disks or CD-Rom. 
  71. Select Yes to restart the computer.

  73. Step 7:
  74. If Windows 95 prompts for a User Name and Password during
  75. the reboot process; Enter the word 'global' in the entry
  76. for User Name but leave the Password entry EMPTY. Click OK.
  77. Again, leave both entries for confirmation of Password
  78. EMPTY. Click OK.

  80. If no prompts appear proceed to step 8.

  82. (The above step will ensure you are
  83. not prompted for a password in future.)

  85. Step 8:
  86. Once the computer has rebooted, Dial-up Networking 
  87. must be installed. Click on Start-Settings-Control Panel.  
  88. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. Click on the Windows 
  89. Setup tab.  Select Communication and click Details.

  91. Step 9:
  92. If Dial-up Networking is not ticked, tick it and click OK. 
  93. Click OK again to install it. If required, Click OK on the 
  94. pop-up box and select Yes to restart the computer.

  96. Step 10:
  97. Now you are ready to install and run Global Internet's 
  98. SurfWare for Windows 95 by replacing the Global Internet 
  99. SurfWare CD-Rom into your drive and allowing it to autoplay.

  103. II.  Advanced Settings for Windows 3.1
  104.  
  105. The Advanced button on the Windows 3.1 Registration button
  106. allows you to configure your modem.  Our default settings for 
  107. COM port, baud rate, initialisation string, and dial string
  108. should be adjusted to your modems requirements.  Please see 
  109. your modem's manual for the proper settings.
